What`s hot in Japan?

Strawberry Rolled Cake

My annual visit to Japan is getting closer to the end. Only a week left to enjoy my time here. One month is too short, but I am so fortunate that I can make this trip every year. I went to a couple of major craft stores in Tokyo and I was amazed that the hand-craft market is going strong! There are many well-made and convenient craft kits, hundreds of them!
I just was so impressed what creators can come up with, especially this yummy looking desserts! They all are made by using wool such as wool roving and felted or unfelted wools.

Chocolate Brownie Parfait

Many Cookies

Aren`t they look so real? There are about 30 different kits for cakes, parfait, ice creams, cookies and some Japanese sweets.

Staying Japan

Spring in Azumino. Viewing North Alps over rice field

We got to Japan about 10 days ago. The rainy season usually starts right around the time we make our annual trip to Japan and it will continue until we leave.
My 10 years old goes to a local school in my mother’s town, Azumino. She has been doing this since she was in kindergarten and she is absolutely loving it! The summer vacation in the US starts around June 20 but it doesn’t start until around July 25 Japan, so she can get to attend the school here for 3 – 4 weeks.

Ending the day in classroom. Kids wear gym clothes all day so thay can attend PE also clean the schoool..

My daughter (middle) and her classsmates are in charge of cleaning a pond.

She leaves the house around 6:50 am, walks to school for 2 miles, changes into a gym clothe, sturdies all day until 4:00 pm, then walks back to home.
Amazing things here are that kids clean entire school and also serve the lunch by themselves everyday!
Attending school here over the summer has been such a great experience for her not only learning the language but also living in the culture and making friends who she continuously communicates via emails and letters.
She has 2 more weeks to go!
More report soon.
